He is exciting, no matter what he does, and now things are getting even more interesting for him on his path to write his name in the record books. Shohei Ohtani wasted no time and stole his 49th base of the season during the Los Angeles Dodgers victory over the Miami Marlins.

During the first inning of the game, Ohtani took off to second base to get one closer to reaching 50 and he is also very close to getting to the 50-mark in the home run category, something to watch for with less than two weeks left in the regular season.

The show began when Ohtani singled off left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers in his first at-bat. He immediately dove toward second base on the first pitch to teammate Mookie Betts, effectively sliding and the whole baseball world is paying attention.

Looking to be in the record books

With his 49 stolen bases, Shohei Ohtani is the second Japanese player on the list for most steals in a single season in Major League history. The record belongs to Ichiro Suzuki, who made 56 steals in 2001.

This achievement highlights the great track record of Japanese players in the league. The Los Angeles player continues to break patterns and set records in his wake. He has become the first player in Major League history to hit at least 48 home runs and 49 steals in a single season.

Shohei is just two home runs and a stolen base away from becoming the first player to reach the 50-50 mark in a season. This achievement would be historic, as only a handful of players have reached the 40-40 mark, and Ohtani could take it even further.
