- MLB. Scott Boras reveals the truth about the Giants' failed g of Carlos Correa
- MLB. Why are baseball teams spending so much money?
The New York Mets are going to push on in their efforts to sign Carlos Correa after there were some complications that put the deal in jeopardy.
They have had a break from the talks for Christmas Day but they will now readdress the situation after some medical tests made it seem like the move may not happen at all.
It seemed that the deal was 100 percent done and Correa would be g a 12-year contract which is worth 315 million dollars.
It was just pending physicals, which were thrown into doubt thanks to a problem with the baseball star's ankle.
It was that ankle injury, which Correa suffered in the minor leagues, which led the San Francisco Giants to turn down a 13-year contract worth 350 million dollars. It's the Mets who are trying to pick up the pieces of that deal.
Optimism about the Mets and Correa
But, the New York Post reports, there is some optimism that a deal between Correa and the Mets can still be completed, albeit with some changes.
Among the options would be adding a clause that would protect the Mets from financial liability if Correa's pre-existing condition sidelines him for an extended period of time.
Correa's agent, Scott Boras, worked out a similar contract clause with JD Martinez after a five-year, 110 million dollar deal with the Red Sox.
Correa, whose preference is to play for the Mets, is not open to varying the length or financial of the contract.
Three other teams that have been in with Correa in recent days are on hold, but Correa remains firm in his intention to finalize his deal with the Mets.
