Major League Baseball's highest-paid player, Max Scherzer of the New York Mets, recently paid $15 million for a Florida mansion he plans to tear down.

Comprised of five bedrooms and five bathrooms, the waterfront property in Jupiter, Florida, belonged to newspaper publisher Robert Smylie, who bought the home in 1999 for $2.9 million, according to information from the site 'Real Deal'.

The mansion first hit the market in November through Lori Schacter of Illustrated Properties. Holly Meyer Lucas of Com represented the professional pitcher, according to The Post.

Located on Commodore Island, the property is about a quarter-acre in size and features 325 feet of intracoastal waterway, with views protected by a barrier island, the listing noted.

"Build your own compound or renovate," the listing for the sale said.

Scherzer squanders his fortune acquiring properties.

The home features a dock for a large yacht. Residents also have the option to be part of the irals Cove Premier Club, which includes 45 holes of golf, a tennis center, a yacht club, a children's program, five restaurants and a marina.

The mansion also had space for a separate guest house. It is unclear whether or not Scherzer will maintain the guesthouse structure.

Scherzer, 38, and his wife, Erica, also own another waterfront property on the same street, which they purchased in 2020 for $9.5 million.

Combined, Scherzer spent $24.7 million in total, and will spend millions more on building a new home.

Meanwhile, following Scherzer's mega-deal with the Mets, 'The New York Post' first reported that he bought a $5 million home on Long Island.

It should be recalled that Max Scherzer signed a Major League record contract of $43 million a year with the Mets just over a season ago.
