The wife of a New York Yankees executive was found dead at their home in New Jersey on Saturday, July 20 in a shocking discovery for the MLB franchise.
Rachel Minaya, who was married to Omar Minaya, has two sons who will be mourning her loss of life, of which suicide has already been excluded as a cause of death whilst her husband was not at home when it happened.
Omar Minaya, who previously served as the New York Mets' General Manager before heading to the Yankees, met his wife in 1989 at a hair salon in Manhatten and it did not take the pair long to fall in love as they got engaged just one year later in Italy.
They went on to have two children together named Teddy and Justin Minaya, the latter of whom is a professional basketball player in the NBA for the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played as a forward on a two-way contract.
Who is Omar Minaya?
Minaya is a Dominican-American baseball executive known for his influential roles in the MLB, where he made history when he became the first Hispanic general manager league history when he took over the Montreal Expos in 2002.
He later served as the GM of the Mets from 2004 to 2010, where he was instrumental in building competitive teams, including the 2006 squad that reached the National League Championship Series and the 2015 team that made the World Series.
Minaya has also held various scouting and advisory roles with other MLB teams, contributing significantly to the identification and development of baseball talent such as the Yankees and the San Diego Padres.
His pioneering career has made a lasting impact on the sport, particularly in promoting diversity in baseball management, making him one of the most respected names within the executive scene.
