Although the New York Yankees are still in the hunt to win the American League East, it's safe to say that things haven't exactly gone to plan for the Bronx Bombers.
Currently half a game back of the Baltimore Orioles, the two teams are battling it out for the division crown despite showing an ability to blow winnable games.
However, while the Yankees remain competitive, their pitching staff continues to be dealt blow after blow.
It may prove to be the team's downfall, as Luis Gil's recent early exit highlighted just how snakebitten the team is.
After a strong start to the campaign, Gil has lost some of his early season form. That was clear to see against the Cleveland Guardians, as Gil gave up three runs on three hits during his three-plus innings start.
He also walked six batters and only managed to throw a first-pitch strike to six hitters.
That wasn't the most worrying part for the Yankees though, as Gil was forced to leave the game with lower back tightness.
Cause for concern for the Yankees?
"I've never felt anything like that," Gil said after the game.
"You're a little worried because you're coming out of the game because you're feeling something that's not right. But at the same time, we've just got to take it day by day and see how I feel tomorrow."
You can understand why Gil would be concerned by the injury, as he was forced to miss almost two years of his career due to an elbow injury.
Gil is set to be reexamined on Wednesday. His pain began after giving up a home run to Brayan Rocchio and walking Steven Kwan.
He followed that up with an 89mph changeup, after which he called for the athletic trainer after feeling discomfort.
That's when the Yankees decided to pull the plug on Gil's start, as they wait to get the full picture on his injury woes.
