Juan Soto's decision to sign with the New York Mets continues to be a talking point among Yankees fans, who feel betrayed by someone who was one of their main players last season.

In 2024, Soto, who had only signed a one-year deal with the Yankees, hit 41 home runs and was key in the Bronx Bombers' return to the World Series after a 15-year absence.

When everything seemed to be in place for Soto to renew with the Yankees, Steve Cohen, owner of the Mets, entered the equation and paid $765 million and a 15-year contract for Soto to the Mets, with the promise of turning them into a team of the ages.

This decision angered Yankees fans, and some of their former stars did not shy away from talking about it, such as Alex Rodriguez, who was part of the Yankees' last title in 2009.

A-Rod's dig at Juan Soto

Some press reports revealed that Juan Soto demanded in addition to the $760 million a box at Yankee Stadium for his family, something to which its owner Hal Streinbrenner refused, which led to Soto betraying the Yankees to go to the Mets.

This was echoed by A-Rod, who shared on his Instagram a fragment of the conversation where he explains what was the key to lead a team with personalities such as Mariano Rivera, Mark Texeira, Derek Jeter and others to the conquest of the title, under the tutelage of Joe Girardi as manager.

"You can't win with a divided team. I'd rather have a good team that's committed than a great team full of egos. You can't win with that, and it's toxic"

As a dig at the Mets, A-Rod also emphasized that only a good team can translate a diversity of personalities into a successful team.

"Take a good team, add commitment and diversity, and you have a great team."
