New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera has broken his silence after his gruesome ankle injury on Monday in the game against the Seattle Mariners, and said he is overwhelmed by the he has received.

The 26-year-old Venezuelan baseball player shared in an extensive Instagram post on Thursday night that he experienced intense pain and "negative thoughts" as a result of the broken ankle, TMZ reported, but the next day he woke up with a lot of love from the people around him and from all the baseball fans.

I received thousands of messages from my family, friends, fans, agents, coaches and teammates. I just got messages from EVERYONE. I left the phone on the bed and with a big smile, the first thing I could say was: 'God, how blessed I am'.

"My return to the pitch begins today"

Now, after undergoing what he called successful surgery, Cabrera took a moment to thank everyone who helped him as he focuses on recovery.

"With the strength that I have always had and all this beautiful energy that you give me, I tell you that I will return, and I will return even stronger to continue giving my best every day," published the New York Yankees third baseman.

Cabrera got caught with his left leg underneath him, and twisted violently as he initially slid across the plate in Monday's game. He managed to touch home before screaming in pain as medics from both teams ran to his side.

So far, the Yankees have not announced a possible timetable for his return to the diamond, but given the scenes that unfolded in Seattle moments after the injury, the fact that Cabrera is in good spirits is already a victory.

The Venezuelan has a .234 batting average, with 20 home runs and 95 RBIs in 301 games in his career over four seasons with the Yankees.

While, in the current season, Cabrera compiled a .243 average with one home run and 11 RBIs in 34 games.
