- MLB. Former MLB outfielder Raúl Mondesi sentenced to 6 years in jail in the Dominican Republic
Olivia Dunne is at the ESPYS this evening, however, her boyfriend Paul Skenes made headlines as he had a terrific start of the game with the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Brewers, while in the zone, Pirates' manager Derek Shelton pulled him from the mound preventing Skenes from continuing a career-changing game.
Skenes was about to make history with the Pirates
Skenes threw seven no-hit innings with 11 strikeouts and just one walk against Milwaukee and when people were cheering for their new favorite pitcher, Shelton took him off the mound and assigned Colin Holderman to continue the game, only to have a lead-off single right on the first try.
When interviewed by the MLB Network, Skenes said "I wasn't going to be surprised either way, if he sent me out or pulled me. Obviously, in a 1-0 game, you want to stay in there, you want to finish it. But the volume's getting up there a little bit, so I get it."
Meanwhile, Jeff an made a quick rundown of Skene's career so far, "final first-half numbers, after his seven-inning, no-hit, 11-strikeout gem today: 66.1 innings 48 hits 13 walks 89 strikeouts 7 home runs 1.90 ERA Opponent slash: .202/.251/.319 Average fastball velocity: 99.1 mph The best pitcher in MLB since his debut May 11."
Skenes is on his way to the All-Star Game and some even say he could be the opening pitcher for the National League, as he said in the interview it would be "Darn cool!"
About his performance, Skenes elaborated on the manager's decision "We went into the outing with a plan... just adjusted to what they were doing and what they were thinking. Made it fun."
