Michael King has been singing the praises of Juan Soto and called him 'one of the top three players' in Major League Baseball right now.
The former New York Yankees right-hander was in the group that got traded with the San Diego Padres so that the Yankees could end up with Soto in their team.
Despite how highly he rates Soto, King thinks that his new team got the better end of the deal and are reaping the rewards of that.
King has his say
"I continue to praise [Padres general manager] A.J. Preller and be confident in saying I feel like the Padres won the trade,'' King said by phone from San Diego on Monday.
"I feel like the talent we've gotten, I was shocked to see the Yankees part with that many people. Obviously, it's Juan Soto, so you have to give up a big package, but I was pumped to see who was coming with me to San Diego. I know they're gonna contribute this year and for years to come."
The other players that headed to the Padres with King, who had a great previous season with the Yankees, were longtime catcher Kyle Higashioka and a trio of young pitchers: Randy Vasquez, Jhony Brito, and prospect Drew Thorpe.
"I don't know Thorpe too well, but I've watched video and you look at his stats and you know he's gonna be a stud,'' King said.
"And the ceilings of Brito and Vasquez are through the roof. I've seen them develop this past year and their stuff is incredible."
