LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly said in a postgame press conference Saturday that linebacker Harold Perkins didn't know who Michael Jordan was, but fans don't believe the story to be true.
Perkins, 18, played with the flu in their 13-10 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Kelly, 61, claimed that when he told Perkins about "MJ" having his best game with flu-like symptoms, the true freshman didn't know who his coach was talking about.
Fans on Twitter are calling out Kelly for a blatant lie, as there's no possible way Perkins doesn't know about one of the most iconic names in pop culture to this day.
It's possible that Perkins didn't understand who his coach meant by "MJ" and that Kelly ran with it to joke about his age, or that the young LB didn't know about Jordan's flu game -- which was actually a food poisoning issue -- but the bold claim is to be taken lightly.
Harold Perkins ties LSU football record
Despite having the flu, Perkins had a monster game, so maybe Kelly's words of encouragement did have some type of effect.
Perkins, 18, tied a single-game school record with four sacks, while also adding eight tackles and forcing two fumbles.
Coach Kelly and Perkins' LSU teammates gifted him with the game ball for willing his team to victory.
"Not much else to say about Harold Perkins. His performance was one of the best I've seen by a freshman. He willed this team to victory today," Kelly wrote.
