- NCAA. Shedeur Sanders already has his designated heir and the keys to kis kingdom prepared for him
The Heisman Trophy is one of the most coveted awards in college football. Every year, the best player in the NCAA receives the award as recognition for their excellent performance. The competition for the prize is fierce, and it's no surprise that Shedeur Sanders is willing to do anything to win it.
The Colorado Buffaloes' quarterback finds himself in controversies every other week. Among the most recent is his online feud with Gavin Kuld, who was his backup at the Buffs until last year. Kuld decided to enter the transfer portal, seeking an opportunity to start for another team.
Kuld's departure sparked a war of words with Shedeur and his father, Deion Sanders, with accusations of nepotism and reproaches about how the quarterback uses his NIL earnings.
Just as this controversy was dying down, Shedeur picked another fight. This time, the Buffs' signal-caller made an enemy of Jaxson Dart, quarterback of the Mississippi Rebels and his main rival for the Heisman Trophy.
Shedeur's new "enemy"
It's worth noting that this time, Shedeur got dragged into a controversy that had little to do with him. Just on Sunday, Billy Bowman, a defensive back for Oklahoma, posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, showing Dart during a practice at the Manning Academy.
Bowman accompanied the video with just two words, "Pick Six." Dart got the message and responded, "Yeah okay buddy, we gon see." Up to that point, it was just a normal rivalry between two direct rivals in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
The fight escalated when a Colorado fan responded in the same tweet, "This is a leader; he shouldn't be on the internet responding to people. He should be the bigger person." Sanders seemed to take the comment personally and retweeted the post with a laughing emoji.
The response didn't seem to go any further, but later, the Colorado QB fueled the controversy with another post saying, "Keep steady mind through it all."
It's all about the Heisman
Although no names have been mentioned yet, it's curious that Shedeur decided to get involved in a controversy that centers on his biggest rival for this year's Heisman.
Until recently, Coach Prime's youngest son was considered the top contender for the award. However, Colorado's poor campaign in 2023 and the nepotism accusations tarnished his chances. In contrast, Dart has been on the rise since transferring to head coach Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss.
Dart's numbers have improved, and many analysts place him ahead of Sanders in the Heisman race. Some lists have Dart in the top spot, while others consider Georgia's Carson Beck, but almost none have the Buffaloes' er in first place.
