- NCAA. Deion Sanders is getting blasted from all over after banning columnist from covering Colorado
If 2023 was Colorado's summer of upheaval, 2024 has been a summer of controversy for head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes.
Entering his second season at the helm, Coach Prime has found foes in the media as expectation grows for his team after a 4-8 debut campaign last year. Colorado has barred Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler from asking Sanders questions at press conferences -- and just days before the Buffs' season opener in Boulder, Sanders has revealed his thin skin again in a podcast interview with former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.
Coach Prime rips Finebaum: A fan only blows when you're hot
On the debut episode of Griffin's new podcast "Outta Pocket", Sanders stopped in to talk to RGIII and his wife Grete in a wide-ranging conversation that featured plenty of talk about another of Coach Prime's "enemies" in the media: ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum.
Finebaum has been fiercely critical of Sanders since Colorado hired him in 2023 -- and more recently, Finebaum has ridiculed Sanders and the program he leads for banning Keeler from covering them. And the social media-savvy Sanders has been following every step of the way.
"How can we be irrelevant and (you're) talking about me?" Sanders asked. "Every time I turn around, someone's sending me a quote (he said). A fan only blows when you're hot, so we must be hot."
Even if AP top-25 voters don't think Sanders and the Buffs are that "hot", Coach Prime led Colorado to a 3-0 start and a top-20 ranking before a disappointing collapse last season. Even if he can repeat the trick in 2024, Sanders has a long way to go to win over Finebaum and other skeptics of his work in Boulder.
