Sports have a unique power to capture the imagination and make "impossible" feats look possible. In college football, the Colorado Buffaloes have one such player in Travis Hunter, who takes snaps and makes dazzling plays as a wide receiver and as a cornerback in head coach Deion Sanders' scheme.

Hunter's ability to play both roles at a high level has drawn comparisons to Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani, a two-time league MVP, is the type of player that Major League Baseball hasn't seen in over 100 years: he has succeeded as a pitcher and creates fear in opponents with what he can do as a batter.

Coach Prime's take on Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunte''s NFL draft future

Two-way superstars

Hunter caught two touchdown es from quarterback Shedeur Sanders on Saturday as Colorado routed in-state rivals Colorado State. In 12 games since transferring to the school last year, Hunter has caught 10 touchdown es for Colorado and racked up over 1,000 yards receiving. He has also recorded four interceptions (including one in 2024) and made 28 total tackles -- leaving talent evaluators salivating as to his NFL potential.

Ohtani ed the Dodgers as a free agent last winter and hit the ground running in the National League. Although he can't pitch this year due to an elbow injury, Ohtani is on track to win his third MVP award, even while playing primarily as a designated hitter. The former Los Angeles Angels superstar has slugged a career-high 47 home runs and stolen 48 bases -- no player in MLB history has reached 50 in both categories in the same season.

While Ohtani already has hardware and is looking to add more, Hunter knows that this is his chance to win the Heisman Trophy as the best individual player in NCAA football. The former Jackson State star is already being touted as a top-10 pick in the next NFL draft, and he needs to keep doing what he's doing to stay in the Heisman hunt -- as well as to help Colorado become bowl-eligible wih six wins.
