It turned out to be a very close game, not as expected, and at the end a very controversial call that was reversed ended up securing a victory for the Miami Hurricanes as they beat the Virginia Tech Hokies 38 to 34 in a thriller.
The 'Canes were up by four in the last play of the game, the visiting Hokies tried to win it on a Hail Mary attempt. Quarterback Kyron Drones delivered the ball into the endzone and in between a sea of hands it seemed that a wide receiver had caught even though a Miami defender got up with the ball. After a small meeting, the referees determined it was a touchdown.
The play then was reviewed and, on the replay, the VA Tech wideout seems to have the ball but not all the way down and then it looks like he doesn't secure it all the way down to the ground and therefore the call was overturned, and the Hurricanes remained undefeated.
The challenge was worth it
The Hokies came to play. They came in with a .500 record at 2-2 but they sure looked real good at the beginning. They held a 10-point lead in more than once occasions and the Hurricanes struggled to get back into this game.
A late stop helped them get hat would be the game-winning touchdown but it was not easy. Cam Ward threw for 343 yards after completing 24 es out of 38 attempts, also throwing for four touchdowns but he got picked off twice.
Damien Martinez had 14 carries for 60 yards and Elijah Arroyo had 88 receiving yards after only two receptions for a score. For the Hokies, Drones was 19 for 33 for 189 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Bhayshul Tuten had 19 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown.
