The College Football Playoff (CFP) not only debuted a new format for its 2024-2025 season, but it also updated its payout table for the teams that reached this stage. In the case of the Sugar Bowl participants, Notre Dame and Georgia, the reward will be much more than just a trophy for the winner.
The CFP kicked off with a bang on December 20. Under the new format, 12 teams entered the tournament, led by the five champions of the Power 5 conferences, plus the seven highest-ranked teams from the entire Bowl Championship Series (BCS).
As part of the tournament's restructuring, the NCAA also updated its payout table, awarding a prize to teams for each round they advance. So, the Fighting Irish and the Bulldogs are in line to receive a hefty reward for their efforts.

What is the prize for Sugar Bowl participants?
Under the new rules, the eight teams that reach the CFP quarterfinals will each receive $4 million. Since the Sugar Bowl hosted one of the quarterfinal games this year, Notre Dame and Georgia are eligible to receive the prize.
But that's not all. Each team that enters the CFP has already received an additional $4 million for reaching this stage. Likewise, the four teams that advance to the semifinals will pocket an additional $6 million, and the final participants will receive a check for $6 million each.
Additionally, all teams receive $3 million to cover expenses for each round in which they participate.
Conferences aren't leaving empty-handed
Each conference receives $300,000 for each of its teams that meets the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate (APR). This measure tracks student-athletes' chances of graduating.
The Power 5 conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC) also received a base amount of $79.41 million each for their full academic performance pool. Each conference decides how it will distribute those funds among its .
