Kim Mulkey has solidified her place as one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history. With an overall coaching record of 740-118 (.862) and a stellar 108-14 (.885) at LSU, her track record speaks volumes. She has led teams to four NCAADivision I tournament championships (2005, 2012, 2019, 2023) and has been named AP College Basketball Coach of the Year three times (2012, 2019, 2022). Notably, Mulkey is the first woman in NCAA history to win national titles as a player, assistant coach and head coach.

This season, her LSU Tigers are on a roll with an undefeated 19-0 record, making them one of only three undefeated teams along with UCLA and Ohio State. However, the Tigers face a big challenge next week against no.2 South Carolina, led by standout Hannah Hidalgo.

Mulkey's "Win at All Costs" Mentality

Despite its flawless record, maintaining perfection hasn't been easy for LSU under the leadership of Kim Mulkey. Mulkey's "win at all costs" mantra drives her relentless approach. When asked about balancing player workloads during such a demanding season, she emphasized, "You play to win. You don't sit in the middle of a game and think about ten games down the road." That mindset has kept LSU atop the SEC standings with a 4-0 conference record. Mulkey is also mindful of her team's energy, using non-conference games as a respite. "I know when to step back and not practice too hard," she noted, demonstrating her ability to balance intensity with strategic rest.

The Tigers' unbeaten streak has propelled them into the top five of the AP Top 25. ing UCLA and Ohio State as the last unbeaten powerhouses, LSU's rise underscores its dominant form. Meanwhile, UCLA maintains its No. 1 ranking, while Notre Dame and other programs are making waves. While other ranked teams face challenges, LSU continues to demonstrate its resilience and determination to stay on top.

LSU's Stars Shine Bright

Flau'Jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow have been instrumental in LSU's success. Johnson leads the team with an impressive 20 points per game and 6.2 assists, while Morrow dominates the boards, averaging 14.4 rebounds per game and leading in minutes played. With 12 games remaining, LSU is on pace to repeat its extraordinary 2022-23 season, when Angel Reese led the team to a 34-2 record and a national championship win over Caitlin Clark's Iowa. That season culminated in Reese's iconic "ring" gesture to Caitlin Clark, a moment that went viral. While the road ahead is challenging, Mulkey's leadership ensures that LSU remains a top contender. The Tigers are poised to make another deep run, fueled by the grit and determination that define their program.
