- NCAA. Shedeur Sanders' dream could come crashing down on NFL Draft night as he's not the favorite for No. 1 pick
- NCAA. Deion Sanders accidentally reveals his master plan for Shedeur's NFL future during a video call
Colorado Buffaloes' superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders had one of the most impressive and succesful college football seasons in 2024 that earned him the 2024 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation's top quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement.
There's no doubt that Deion Sanders' son has what it takes to be a great NFL player and achieve a great amount of success in the most popular league in the nation, but sometimes that greatness could come with a sense of arrogance and some critics might say that Shedeur could be full of himself.
Shedeur Sanders says that he won't declare for the NFL Draft
College footbal players are NFL Draft-eligible only in the year after the end of their college eligibility. That's the case for Shedeur Sanders, who just finished his senior season with the Colorado Buffaloes, so it's a given that his name is going to be on draft night for NFL teams to pick him.
However, some players declare for the NFL in a public event where they get to give a message to the nation about their intentions of becoming professional football players. That won't be the case for Shedeur, as he made that clearly on the latest episode of his podcast "2 Legendary".
When cohost Darius Sanders (no relationship with Deion Sanders or "Coach Prime's family) asked Shedeur when is he going to publicly declare for the NFL Draft, the superstar quarterback responded in a somewhat arrogant way.
"I think it's obvious so I don't be understanding what's the point of posting. It's like, come on, bro, y'all know what time it is. Y'all know who the best quarterback in the nation is, so it's just like y'all doing this that I gotta declare, I'm not going to declare, y'all know what I'm about to do." Sanders said.
Currently, Scouts Inc. rankings place Shedeur Sanders as the best quarterback available for the 2025 NFL Draft, but not the best player overall. That honor goes to Penn State's defensive end Abdul Carter, who's projected to be the No. 1 pick in the draft. Shedeur falls all the way to the ninth spot.
"Sanders has handled the hype well and doesn't appear afraid of the big moment on the big stage. He throws to open receivers and leads them to yards after the catch. Sanders spins the ball well and showed better timing and touch on his downfield throws in the three-game evaluation of 2023 tape than in the four 2022 Jackson State games watched." Deion Sanders accidentally reveals his plan for Shedeur
On a recent conversation, Deion Sanders made it clear he's ready to step into the spotlight to protect and guide Shedeur's NFL aspirations. "Why are you the only kid they hate on?" he questioned, hinting at a larger, strategic move to ensure Shedeur lands with the right team in the draft.
For Deion, this isn't just about Shedeur playing football; it's about him thriving in the perfect environment to succeed. Deion's faith in his son is unwavering, but he is also painfully aware of the scrutiny Shedeur faces.
According to Deion, Shedeur is the main target of criticism because of his high profile and undeniable talent. The goal, as Deion sees it, is not just to hate, but to try to manipulate the draft process so that Shedeur can "slide" to a lower pick, allowing certain teams to grab him at a bargain price.
