- NCAA. Steve Sarkisian's gesture to Arch Manning shows he is seeking his 'forgiveness' after Quinn Ewers' departure
A new era is dawning in Texas football. The Longhorns have re-established themselves as an elite college football team after more than a decade of general irrelevance, and consecutive heartbreaking losses in the College Football Playoff will serve as motivation entering the 2025 season.
A change at quarterback is another reason why many believe that the Longhorns' best days are still ahead of them. Arch Manning is replacing Quinn Ewers behind center this fall, and the 19-year-old's lineage -- he is the nephew of NFL quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning -- has inspired confidence that Texas' 19-year national championship drought is going to end.
Chris Simms discusses Arch Manning's secret to success
Former Texas star Chris Simms knows a thing or two about the high expectations that have long defined the Longhorns program. In a new interview though, Simms has insisted that Arch Manning is the type of talent who can rise above the hype, and he highlighted a key difference between Manning and Ewers that will help the former succeed.
"Arch, like from people I know down there, the team's already his. It's been his. They love Arch," Simms said. "They like Quinn, don't get me wrong, but from everything I know, Arch is like the guy. ... He's, I think, going to be a better decision-maker from everything I hear, too, to where they'll be able to add more offense on the field, right? So I'm pumped. We're back, baby. Arch, like from people I know."
Ewers' decision-making was sometimes spotty, and it led to costly turnovers that ultimately doomed Texas in its bid to win the national title this past season. With Manning being regarded as a more sensible decision-maker and a superior athlete, Texas fans will have a lot to look forward to over the next two years before Manning becomes draft-eligible in 2027.
