The tragic death of UNLV football transfer Ben Christman has taken a new turn with the revelation that the 21-year-old offensive lineman had complained of chest pains just a day before he was found dead in his off-campus apartment on February 11, 2025.
According to a police report viewed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Christman's teammates informed responding officers that he had experienced chest pains during a team practice on February 10. Concerned for his well-being, one of his coaches arranged for Christman to undergo an EKG at a team facility. The results were promptly sent to the team's cardio doctor, but unfortunately, Christman ed away the following day.
The Clark County Coroner's Office is currently conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death, a process that may take several months to complete. Authorities have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play at this time.
A troubling time on campus
Christman's sudden death has deeply affected the UNLV community and beyond. Rebels head coach Dan Mullen talked about the ing of the student-athlete, and it has been something that has affected the whole college community.
Christman, who had transferred from the University of Kentucky, was expected to play a key role for the Rebels. His journey included stints at Ohio State and Kentucky, where he made a strong comeback in 2024 after recovering from a knee injury.
