Steve Sarkisian doesn't plan on going anywhere. The Texas Longhorns head coach claims to have "the best job in America" and is convinced that better things are coming, thanks to the rise of quarterback Arch Manning, who expects great things this season.
Coach Sarkisian arrived at the Longhorns four years ago with the mission of returning the team to the top spots in the NCAA. The helmsman's good work earned him a massive contract extension that will keep him with the team until 2031 for the not-inconsiderable amount of $80 million.
Beyond the salary, Sarkisian is happy with his position. "I really think I have the best job in America," he said in a chat with Kay Adams. "And I know that's easy to say because I'm sitting in the chair right now," the coach itted, "but I said this to my dad like 30 years ago. He asked me, 'What's the best job?' And I said, 'The University of Texas.'"
Not everything has been smooth sailing for Sarkisian and his Longhorns. His first year ended with a 5-7 record and a "six-game losing streak, no draft picks, like really poor." However, in his third year, "We make it to the College Football Semifinals. We break the school record for draft picks with 11. Year four, we go to the semis again."
Manning is the future for Texas and Sarkisian
The 2024-2025 season of the Longhorns was shrouded in controversy due to quarterback Quinn Ewers' inconsistency and Arch Manning's rising career. Every time Ewers made a mistake, fans clamored for Sarkisian to replace him with Manning.
Now, Ewers declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, Manning will get his long-awaited opportunity at QB1, and Sarkisian can't wait to see him in the position. The head coach assured that Arch "instills belief" among his teammates and the coaching staff.
Furthermore, the helmsman assured that the young Arch is an evolution of the Manning family, saying he has "more swag than his uncles," NFL greats Eli and Peyton. On a more serious note, Sarkisian said, "He's got the athleticism of his grandpa," Archie, the New Orleans Saints legend.
Sarkisian has built something special in Austin
In just four years, Sarkisian changed the face of theUniversity of Texas. Although head coach Tom Herman's tenure was not all bad, Sarkisian took the team to the next level.
Three college bowl games, two consecutive CFP semifinal appearances, 25 players selected in the NFL Draft, and 14 NFL Combine invitees are just some indicators of Sarkisian's good work in Austin. If the team can keep up the momentum, the next step is the National Championship, without a doubt.
