The LSU athletics community is mourning the tragic loss of Dillon Reidenauer, a promising freshman pole vaulter who was killed in a devastating car accident earlier this week, as Olivia Dunne re her friend.

The 18-year-old athlete lost her life in Baton Rouge on the night of Wednesday, February 26, when the vehicle she was in was struck by a motorcyclist as announced by LSU Athletics, who also confirmed the motorcyclist, 23-year-old Bodhi Linton, died in the collision.

In a heartfelt tribute, the LSU gymnastics team honored Reidenauer during their Friday night competition at the Podium Challenge as Dunne and her colleagues wore black ribbons in their hair as a symbol of remembrance.

Tributes pour in for Reidenauer

Dunne, who is in her fifth and final year of NCAA eligibility with the Tigers, shared a touching photo with teammate Alyona Schennikova as both displayed their black silk ribbons tied into their ponytails.

Additionally, the LSU Gymnastics official social media posted several images of team sporting the ribbons with the caption: "Competing for Dillon tonight".

The tragic accident occurred when the car Reidenauer was in attempted to turn left onto South Quad Drive and was struck by Linton's motorcycle. She had only recently begun her college athletic career but was already recognized as one of the top pole vaulters in Louisiana.

Prior to ing LSU, she attended Fontainebleau High School, where she excelled in track and field. Just last May, she had enthusiastically and excitedly announced her commitment to the LSU program but losing her life.

"Dillon was a model student-athlete," Sam Sanders, Fontainebleau High School coach, told the public. "She was the kind of person any coach would want on any team.

"She had her heart set on LSU and she was going to do whatever it took to get that goal. It's difficult to process-losing someone so quickly like that. It's a very somber day."
