After spending much of his college career in the shadow of Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr. has finally stepped into the spotlight.
The former Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver turned heads at the 2025 NFL Combine, proving that he is more than just a complementary piece in Colorado's high-powered offense.
Now, Horn has taken his confidence to another level, boldly stating that he believes he is the best receiver in what was an elite WR corps.
Proving himself on the big stage
Horn's path to the NFL has been anything but conventional. While Hunter solidified himself as one of the top prospects in the draft class, ultimately skipping Combine workouts, Horn took the opportunity to showcase his skillset in front of scouts. His efforts have elevated his draft stock, with many now viewing him as a potential late first-round pick.
Despite Hunter putting up 1,258 receiving yards in 2024 compared to Horn's 441 yards, Horn sees himself as the best receiver on their squad. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, the Florida native did not hesitate to express his belief in his abilities,
"Every receiver we had could have been a WR1 wherever they went. We had a great receiving room, but I feel I'm the best receiver," he said.
While Hunter's overall production dwarfed Horn's, their yards per reception numbers suggest that Horn wasn't far off in efficiency. Hunter averaged 13.1 YPR, while Horn posted a solid 11.9 YPR, proving that when given opportunities, he could maximize his touches.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Horn's career is his delayed arrival to Deion Sanders' coaching system. Unlike Hunter, who fully embraced Coach Prime's vision from the start, Horn chose not to follow Sanders to Jackson State.
That decision may have impacted his overall development, but Horn isn't concerned about the "what ifs." He believes his confidence and self-belief make up for any missed opportunities.
When Eisen asked whether his comments created tension with Hunter, Horn clarified: "I never go out of my way to go up to people and be like, 'I'm the best receiver,' but that's just how I feel. I have the confidence, and my game can back it up too."
