As Travis Hunter prepares to make history in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Colorado standout has taken a moment to reflect on one of the most influential figures from his early football journey - Cam Newton.
Hunter, widely considered one of the most electric prospects entering this year's draft, opened up about his relationship with Newton during a recent episode of The Travis Hunter Show.
Hunter, who once played for Newton's 7-on-7 team, offered glowing praise for the former NFL MVP and expressed strong for Newton's case for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
"Playing 7 on 7 was just super fun. No, you got to meet a lot of kids, a lot of different guys, and get coached by Cam Newton. So, like getting coached by an NFL vet and player, you know, and soon-to-be Hall of Famer, I hope so," Hunter said.
"You know, that was like, kind of like, like, super cool, super fun, you know, just out there having fun."
He added: "You always had to compete, the competitive spirit, and you because you were always competing, you know, year-round. So that was great."
Hunter's Ambitious NFL Future
While Hunter is quick to praise Newton and acknowledge the lessons learned under his mentorship, the 21-year-old phenom is focused on forging his own path - one that could break NFL norms.
After a record-setting season at Colorado, where he excelled both as a cornerback and wide receiver, Hunter took home the Heisman Trophy, marking one of the most impressive campaigns in college football history. Now set for the NFL Draft, Hunter's versatility is at the forefront of conversations surrounding his professional future.
Although he ed as a cornerback at the NFL Scouting Combine, many believe he possesses the rare athleticism to contribute on both sides of the ball - something virtually unseen in the modern NFL.
His ability to play as a full-time offensive and defensive player has sparked debates about whether an NFL team will give him the opportunity to rewrite what it means to be a star in the league.
Hunter's relationship with Newton also adds another layer to his story. Their time together on the 7-on-7 circuit gave Hunter early exposure to elite-level training and mentorship. Now, as Hunter sets his sights on the NFL, he is aiming to achieve his own greatness while still backing Newton's legacy.
With the NFL Draft approaching in April 2025, the football world will soon see where Hunter lands - and if any team is willing to give him the dual-role chance fans are eager to see.
As for Cam Newton, Hunter made his stance clear: "Soon-to-be Hall of Famer, I hope so." And coming from one of the brightest young stars in football, that's high praise.
