The Trojans secured the number one seed in the NCAA Women's Tournament bracket released Sunday.

However, Lindsay Gottlieb disagreed with her ranking as the fourth seed, saying it was unfair. She expressed her disagreement to the media shortly after the announcement.

"I never thought we would be seeded first and feel disrespected. But I thought there was very little chance of us being seeded fourth and first," the head coach said.

Nevertheless, she is trying to ensure that it does not affect their mentality and is trying to deflect what has happened: "We have a big game on Saturday against UNCG. We will handle it accordingly. But tell me if you think the tie we got should have been the tie we got," Lindsay said.

UCLA, USC's main rival and top-ranked team, lost to the Trojans twice during the regular season, but won the Big Ten final. The other two first-place teams are South Carolina and Texas.

Stephen A. Smith gave his harsh opinion

It should come as no surprise that Smith tries to wade into the controversy, as this time he was no exception and held nothing back in his attack on Lindsay Gottlieb.

In another episode of First Take, Smith was asked about Gottlieb's comments and attitude as the number one seed, and his response was very direct.

"You can't complain when you just lost the conference championship game to a team you beat twice in the regular season. It almost seems like you're complaining about having to play UConn, the second-seeded team in your region", the ESPN reporter began.

And mind you, that wasn't all, because he started to raise his tone to the point of saying they were scared:

"You're scared, say you're scared. I'm not accusing them of being afraid, I'm just saying that's how the coach sounds. I hear what you're saying...but you beat UConn earlier in the season and you beat them again. That's the bottom line," Stephen A. Smith concluded his harsh criticism.
