Owen Hayes, a 21-year-old baseball player at The Master's University in Santa Clarita, California, has been charged with felony assault following an alleged unprovoked attack on an 84-year-old man at a local bar. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of February 28 at Doc's Inn, was captured on video, sparking widespread outrage.

According to law enforcement sources, a confrontation erupted between the elderly patron and another individual inside the bar. Video footage shows a man, allegedly Hayes, rushing up behind the victim during the altercation and knocking him to the floor.

Witnesses reported that the older man was rendered unconscious and required hospitalization, though his injuries were fortunately not life-threatening. Bar staff described the assault as entirely unprovoked.

The immediate consequences of the altercation

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station confirmed that Hayes surrendered to authorities on Monday, March 17. He was booked on a felony assault charge for actions likely to cause great bodily injury and is being held on $50,000 bail.

The Master's University, where Hayes plays baseball, declined to comment on the matter, citing the ongoing investigation. However, the incident has raised questions about behavior standards among student-athletes and ability measures within college sports programs.

This troubling case has drawn attention to issues of violence and alcohol-related altercations. As legal proceedings continue, the community and the victim's family await justice for the alleged assault, which has left many questioning the actions of a young athlete with a promising future.
