Deion Sanders wants Shedeur Sanders to the New York Giants. What many fans and executives feared -- that Deion would use his power and influence to shake up the draft board -- is coming to reality, as Coach Prime took a break from rebuilding the Colorado Buffaloes to reveal where he wants his son, one of the top players in the 2025 draft, to play at the start of his NFL career.
The Giants own the #3 overall selection in April's draft, but the Cleveland Browns pick second and share the same intense need for a franchise quarterback as major-market New York. If Shedeur's preference matches Deion's, and the Browns are left with no options to draft the Colorado quarterback, then perhaps his star teammate will suffice as the potential best player available.
Hunter's Heisman bonafides on the Browns?
Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum wrote in his mock draft article for ESPN about the possibility that the Browns would simply select Travis Hunter at #2, ignoring their problem at quarterback in favor of last year's Heisman Trophy winner, a unique talent who excelled both as a cornerback and as a wide receiver.
"Cleveland needs a quarterback, so I considered Colorado's Shedeur Sanders here. But it also needs cornerback and receiver help," Tannenbaum wrote. "Hunter is an extremely rare player, having played more than 1,100 career snaps at both of those positions."
The Browns have former Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson on the books, but Watson is owed significant money and is poised to miss the 2025 season through injury. Cleveland recently acquired former first-round pick Kenny Pickett in a trade with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, but it is uncertain whether he is starting-quality, having bounced around a couple teams already in his young career.
Cleveland could always select a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft and attempt to develop him, but with the doors to Shedeur and Cam Ward "locked" for the time being, the Browns' backup plan could be in the form of the electric Hunter. Only time will tell.
