Since his shocking move from the NFL to the collegiate ranks, Bill Belichick has been laser-focused on building his new program at North Carolina.

While his transition from the pros to college football has included a few headline-making moments-such as award show appearances and even some beachside yoga-his primary concern has been recruiting and establishing a winning culture.

That dedication was put on display Monday when North Carolina hosted its pro day, an event that attracted scouts from 31 of 32 NFL teams, as well as key figures from the league. But one notable figure was missing - Belichick himself.

A strategic decision or a red flag?

Instead of attending pro day, Belichick was behind closed doors, leading staff meetings from 7 a.m. to noon, according to The Athletic's Joe Person. Coaching at the college level for the first time in his nearly 50-year career, the legendary coach appears to be prioritizing team operations over high-profile events.

His decision drew mixed reactions. Some saw it as a smart move, allowing draft-eligible players to have their moment without his overshadowing presence.

"It's a day for the athletes," one Twitter pointed out.

"He would just be a distraction for the NFL scouts who wouldn't be able to not talk to him."

Others agreed, arguing that since Belichick never coached these players, his absence wasn't a big deal.

However, skeptics viewed his no-show differently, questioning whether Belichick is fully committed to coaching at the collegiate level.

"This is gonna be a colossal failure," one critic predicted.

"He doesn't seem really into this," were the thoughts of another Twitter .

Of course, social media didn't hold back on the jokes, with many taking aim at Belichick's age (72) and his relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson.

"Schedule interfered with local restaurants' blue plate special. You gotta have priorities," one quipped.

Whether Belichick's approach proves to be a stroke of genius or an early warning sign remains to be seen. For now, he remains fully invested in shaping North Carolina's future-on his own .
