Bill Belichick looks looser than ever at UNC as he leaves Patriots and NFL in rearview mirror

Once considered lacking emotion and empathy, Belichick is relishing in this new chapter of his life.

The college football and NFL worlds were somewhat stunned when Bill Belichick was announced as the new head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Despite strong rumors linking him to the Atlanta Falcons, Belichick took a year off after leaving the New England Patriots and waited until December to make his decision.

Belichick had never coached at the collegiate level before ing UNC, spending every year since 1975 with an NFL franchise. At 72 years old, fans wondered if he would still have the drive to coach, but he certainly appears to have found a new jolt of energy. He might be helped by his much-younger girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. That new energy has translated to the gridiron, it seems.

New footage surfaced this week of Belichick directing a UNC football practice. What stood out to many was how even-keeled Belichick appeared while coaching his players.

Belichick was never too crazy as a head coach with the Patriots, but he looks relaxed and in more of a "teacher" role. It makes sense considering he's now coaching 18-22 years old, as opposed to fully grown men.

It will take a different level of coaching in order to maximize the potential of his players, but Belichick is up for it.
