- NCAA. Sanders backlash continues: This Colorado legend was not happy with the latest Buffaloes decision
Shedeur Sanders is one of the players who has generated the most speculation heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Colorado star's draft stock has been a roller coaster in recent weeks, but in recent days, one analyst took what appears to be the final blow to the young Sanders, calling him "too small."
The former Buffaloes quarterback remains at the center of the conversation ahead of this Thursday's draft. Some analysts still believe the son of the legendary Deion Sanders will be one of the top 10 picks this year, while others have him as low as the middle of the first round or even lower.
The Buffaloes' Pro Day a couple of weeks ago helped boost Shedeur's prospects, but it didn't stop the criticism. In his most recent column for ESPN, analyst Jeff Legwold gave Sanders a low rating, suggesting he's too small to be a good quarterback in modern football.
Shedeur's size could be an issue
In his list of the top 100 prospects for the 2025 draft, Legwold ranked Sanders 32nd. Among other points, the analyst considered that the 6-foot-1, 212-pound player might be too small to excel on the professional gridiron.
Legwold acknowledged the former Buffs star's skill, by saying, "When he sets his feet in a clean pocket, Sanders shows the best mechanics and accuracy of any quarterback in this draft. His 71.8% completion rate in two seasons in Colorado is an FBS career record."
However, the reporter explained that he also has a significant handicap against him. "He's undersized and doesn't throw the ball quickly, which partially explains why he took an FBS-leading 94 sacks in the past two seasons," Legwold clarified.
Shedeur's fate remains a mystery
With the draft just days away, where Sanders will be selected remains unknown. While quarterback Cam Ward is the undisputed No. 1 overall pick-barring something extraordinary-experts still don't agree on Shedeur's fate.
Teams like the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints, who might have been interested in him, have already addressed their quarterback needs, leaving a giant question mark next to Shedeur Sanders's name.
