The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft dealt Shedeur Sanders a crushing blow. After being snubbed even by teams that desperately needed a quarterback, analysts predict the former Colorado star will be an early second-round pick.
The offseason was quite an odyssey for the son of the legendary Deion Sanders. From being considered a top candidate, his prospects worsened as the weeks ed amid controversy and bad scouting reports, until his fate became one of the most debated points of this draft.
Teams such as the New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Browns seemed like ideal landing spots for Sanders in the first round. However, when it came time to choose, they opted for other directions, leaving Sanders' fate uncertain.
Potential second-round destinations
Now, as the second round approaches, several analysts believe Sanders will still be among the early picks. Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk has predicted the Browns will use the first pick of the second round, 33rd overall, to select Sanders.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports sees the Raiders as the frontrunner, with their fifth pick in the second round (37th overall). If not the Raiders, Benjamin suggests the New Orleans Saints (40th overall) or the New York Jets (42nd overall) as alternative options.
Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports also lists Cleveland as a likely destination, pointing to one of the Browns' two second-round picks. On the other hand, NFL.com's Eric Edholm projects a steeper slide for Sanders, suggesting he might become the Browns' third-round pick at 67th overall.
Shedeur's optimism
After being ed over on Thursday night, Sanders maintained a hopeful outlook, telling reporters, "We all didn't expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything's possible... and I think this didn't happen for no good reason."
With the second and third rounds scheduled for Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders' future will soon be decided. The question remains: Will the analysts' predictions pan out, or does the draft have more surprises in store?
