NFL star Peyton Hillis is in critical condition after he suffered injuries whilst rescuing his children from drowning on a beach in northwest Florida.
He is now battling to save his life in hospital as he is in the intensive care unit in the hospital. It was reported by US media that he was seen coughing up sand after rescuing the children and was subsequently put on a ventilator to keep him alive.
Despite all of that help from medical professionals, his kidney is still not functioning normally and that is why he is still at risk of death.
The whole world of the NFL and sport in general in the United States is watching what happens to Hillis, who after this heroics managed to save the lives of his children who are doing well.
Hillis' family has now launched an appeal for everyone to pray for him and his recovery and save his life.
Hillis played at Arkansas from 2004 to 2007 and was drafted in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He then spent seven seasons with the Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants.
His best NFL season was in 2010 with the Browns, when he rushed for 1,177 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
An uncle of Hillis, Greg Hillis, wrote on Facebook on Thursday that his nephew's health was better, though he was still considered to be in critical condition.
"He's ... having some problems with his kidneys and his lungs, but the doctors say he is improving," Greg Hillis's post read in part.
