Almost a week has ed since the death of a former New England Patriots player on the beaches of Destin. His partner was also in Florida at the time of the accident, so she has decided to mourn in silence until now. They had only made their relationship public on 1 June.
She thanked everyone for the messages of she has received over the past few days and said she will make an effort to respond to as many as she can. She posted an emotional message to her Facebook page with pictures of the two of them saying goodbye to the quarterback.
"I don't know how I'm going to get through this, but I'm honored to love you and be loved by you," Madison Carter wrote on Facebook.
In the first paragraph she opens by explaining that she tried to save his life, unsuccessfully.
"Forgive me for not being able to save you, I hope you know how hard I tried."
Such a statement is all the more heartbreaking when you consider that Carter studied medicine at the University of Arkansas, and was pursuing a specialization in osteopathy, so she has first aid skills.
"I prayed for you for 27 years, and we had finally found each other. I trust that God has a plan for everything, but I don't think I will ever understand why this happened," she continued.
"Everyone knows how talented, dedicated and ionate you were about playing football. Those of us who were lucky enough to know your heart know that it was bigger than your huge personality and stature.
"Things weren't about you, they were about others. Many times I heard you say 'there are so many good people in the world', and that phrase perfectly demonstrates the kind of person you were. Always looking out for the good of things and others."
