There is a chance that Rob Gronkowski could soon come out of retirement and play in the NFL again, but it will require something specific to happen in the Super Bowl.
Gronkowski used to be the tight end for the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he spoke to PEOPLE his return to FanDuel's anticipated "Kick of Destiny" on Super Bowl Sunday. He made a bet there which could see him come out of retirement.
The Kick of Destiny is going to be a little different this year compared to recent times.

"I'm not kicking at all. I booted myself out of Kick of Destiny 3. I literally kicked myself out," joked Gronkowski about the annual competition tradition, which will take place live in the 3:00 p.m. ET hour of the Fox Super Bowl Pregame Show.
"If Peyton and Eli both don't make a field goal, my morale will be picked back up again because it just shows how hard it is," the retired athlete tells PEOPLE. "That will give me the morale boost... and that might get me to come back to football," he states.
"Right there... Right there. That could be it," emphasizes Gronkowski of his bet. "They both have to totally miss."
Gronkowski to run it back
Gronkowski retired from the NFL in 2022 having completed an impressive 11 seasons at the top level. Nine of those seasons were spent with the New England Patriots, and much of that was spent playing with Tom Brady.
His career ended with Brady at the Buccaneers, where he managed to secure his fourth Super Bowl and cement himself as one of the best tight ends that there has been in the sport.
