Former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin III went through an emotional roller coaster while watching his former team lose a dramatic 27-20 opener to the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.
The game ended in heartbreaking fashion for the Ravens when tight end Isaiah Likely's potential game-tying touchdown was overturned due to an out-of-bounds call.
Likely made an incredible catch in the back of the end zone as time expired, seemingly tying the game.
However, upon review, officials determined that Likely's right foot had barely stepped out of bounds, nullifying the touchdown and sealing the Chiefs' win. The reversal left Ravens fans, and Griffin, devastated.
Griffin went viral with reaction
Griffin, who spent his final three NFL seasons with the Ravens backing up Lamar Jackson, shared his live reaction on social media.
Initially, he was thrilled when it appeared Baltimore had tied the game, shouting, "Let's go!" into the camera when coach John Harbaugh signaled for a two-point conversion attempt to win.
But Griffin's joy quickly turned to disbelief as the replay revealed Likely's foot out of bounds. With his head in his hands, Griffin reacted, "Oh no, oh my God, his foot was on the line," visibly crushed by the overturned call.
After the game, Griffin joked about the wild ending on X (formerly Twitter), posting, "Couldn't have asked for a better NFL season opening game. NFL script writers on a heater already. BRAVO."
The Ravens, now 0-1, return home to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2. Meanwhile, the Chiefs, buoyed by their thrilling win, will take on the Cincinnati Bengals as they look to build momentum in the new season.
