While the drama surrounding James Cook and his future with the Buffalo Bills organization continues, the team is already exploring alternative solutions to keep Josh Allen happy and ready to chase the Super Bowl in a new season, where he will try again in an unforgiving NFL where every team is bolstering its roster.

A star running back for a star quarterback

Recently, Houston journalist Aaron Wilson reported that Texas Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue had a visit with the Bills. An explosive runner who recorded a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, remarkably doing so with a groin tear. Even so, his time was fast enough to place second among the 24 running backs who participated in the test. During Texas' Pro Day, he improved his time to 4.25 seconds-something that must have stunned more than a few.

In the 2024 season, he amassed 134 carries for 730 yards and eight touchdowns, in addition to 368 yards and six touchdowns on 42 receptions.

Jaydon Blue is projected to be an early Day 3 pick in the NFL Draft and is a very realistic target for the Bills in the fourth or fifth round, especially since a recent report from Ian Rapoport indicates that the contractual situation with James Cook is "not great."

Now, NFL Draft analyst Kyle Crabbs described the player as "lightning in a bottle, capable of breaking out at any moment at the highest level of the NFL." Meanwhile, analyst Lance Zierlein praised his receiving ability, highlighting his true value in his "ability to mismatch linebackers and threaten defenses as a receiver out of the backfield."

Buffalo can capitalize on Blue's ability to create mismatches in the ing game. In 2024, Josh Allen threw 82 es to running backs, ing for 17% of his attempts. The departures of Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper free up another 82 targets, leaving plenty of room for Blue to make an immediate impact on the team if his name is called in the Draft.
