With the 2025 NFL Draft just days away, the Cleveland Browns are at a crossroads, holding the No. 2 overall pick and facing a franchise-defining decision. While reports suggest they may on selecting a quarterback at the top of the draft, speculation is growing that the Browns could trade back into the first round to secure one later.
NFL analyst Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network has predicted that Cleveland will make a significant trade to acquire the No. 30 overall pick from the Buffalo Bills, using it to draft Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. In his seven-round mock draft, Cummings suggests that the Browns would send their No. 33 and No. 94 picks, along with a 2026 second-round selection, to Buffalo in exchange for the 30th pick and a 2026 fifth-rounder.
"In this 2025 NFL Mock Draft, the Browns move up for Dart, boxing out the Giants," Cummings wrote. "Dart could fit Kevin Stefanski's scheme well, if he can expand on the flashes of intermediate anticipation he shows on film. He's talented and tough, and those traits play."
Still doubts at the position
Cleveland's quarterback situation remains uncertain following an inconsistent 2024 season. Deshaun Watson's future with the team is in question due to injuries, and the Browns cycled through multiple starters last year. While they could select a rookie quarterback in the second round, trading up for Dart suggests a stronger commitment to finding a long-term solution under center.
Dart, known for his toughness and ability to make plays under pressure, could provide a fresh start for Cleveland's offense. His skill set aligns with head coach Kevin Stefanski's system, and if developed properly, he may emerge as the franchise's next cornerstone quarterback.
The Browns have eight draft picks to work with and pressing needs at other positions, including rusher, offensive tackle, and running back. Whether they execute a move for Dart or focus on strengthening other areas remains to be seen. The draft could shape Cleveland's trajectory for years to come, and all eyes will be on their strategy as the clock ticks down.
