The NFL has not made it easy for Shedeur Sanders. In fact, some would say the league is trying to humble him. At least that's the sentiment for many who still don't understand why Sanders fell to 144th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, watching as much less productive signal-callers got their name called ahead of him. It still doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but NFL front offices made clear that they don't see him as a franchise quarterback, or they don't want the "media circus" that would come with having him on their team.
The Cleveland Browns ultimately made the decision to take the plunge In the 5th round. It became impossible to overlook Sanders' ceiling given how risk-free it would be to pick him so late in the draft. While the Browns were a strong link to Sanders in the pre-draft process, the Colorado quarterback didn't exactly land in a great spot. Cleveland has three other quarterbacks on the roster with a legitimate shot at the starting spot, while Deshaun Watson is a true wild card.
Shedeur Sanders fulfills promise to high school football team in Cleveland
In order to win the starting job, Sanders must do everything right on and off the field. He's already gotten started on the latter, as he visited a local high school in Cleveland for a workout on Wednesday, fulfilling a promise he made to their student-athletes.
Unsurprisingly, Sanders is beginning to grow on Browns fans. Sanders has said all of the right things since being drafted, continues to work hard on the gridiron and has already developed a presence in the city's community.
While some may take it as Sanders trying to generate good PR and earn brownie points with the media, he could have just sulked at home while lamenting his catastrophic slide in the draft. Instead, he's trying to show everyone that he has all of the intangibles necessary to be the Browns' franchise quarterback.
