- NFL. Shedeur Sanders will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns from Week 1, but the reason is the lack of confidence in the rest
- NFL. Deshaun Watson could ruin Shedeur Sanders' development in 2025 if Browns owner gets his way
The pressure on Dillon Gabriel since being selected in the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns-55 picks ahead of Shedeur Sanders-has been immense. From day one of rookie minicamp, all the spotlights have been on the Browns' quarterback room and head coach Kevin Stefanski.
We still don't know for sure who will be the Browns' QB1 at the start of the season - with Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett also battling for the starting role - but Sanders made it clear how his relationship with Gabriel stands. "Everything's been cool," Shedeur recently told SportsCasting's DJ Siddiqui.
"He's a cool person. I like how he handles situations, especially the negative media coming his way. I'm just happy he's positive and able to handle everything. We're truly cool," Shedeur added. The start of the season is still a couple of months away, but for now, things seem to be going well between the two rookie quarterbacks.
Sanders and Gabriel learning together
Gabriel, seen as a potential early pick by some, has grasped Cleveland's circumstances well and even told reporters during rookie minicamp that he's happy the two can "learn from one another." Later, Sanders echoed that sentiment and said they are "for sure" learning from each other.
Sanders has also stated that he has found himself in a "united QB room" in Cleveland. That room could next season include Deshaun Watson, who is currently out until the 2026 season with a ruptured Achilles.
