Micah Parsons may well keep Mike McCarthy in a job if he continues his stellar performances with the Dallas Cowboys as the linebacker single-handedly brings the defense back to life over Thanksgiving.
It's no surprise that the 25-year-old is on a $17m deal, which is set to be dramatically rise in the near future, and he recently inspired America's Team to a 27-20 victory over the New York Giants in the NFC East.
At the minimum the win will will ensure they are not going to finish last in the division, whilst they have a very outside chance of making the postseason, and Parsons said the defense deserves the credit.
"We all see a difference, don't we," Parsons told media on Thursday, November 28. "The film's not lying. Everybody's staying in their gaps. We're playing honest and true.
"That just goes to show that we're just starting to believe in each other, really buying into the program and understanding that we really can be good."
The transformation since his return has been exceptional. In the past five games, they've conceded 400 yards just once and have restricted third-down conversions to just 40% as well as just 11 es for 20+ yards.
That's compared to 400+ yards in four times in their opening seven as well as 22 es of 20+ yards as well as only making four interceptions and one fumble recovery as they slipped to a 3-4 record.
"We have a little bit more confidence," Eric Kendricks said of the turnaround. "People are understanding the scheme a little bit more."
Parsons deserves a lot of credit
Micah Parsons is currently playing like a man on a mission for a massive contract extension as the star has made 5.5 sacks in the last four games as well as still being the team leader in sacks, despite sitting out four contests through injury.
Against the Giants, he produced five successful pressures as well as 1.5 sacks and it's no surprise McCarthy is heaping the praise onto the linebacker.
"We're a better football team, a better defense, when Micah is on the field," McCarthy said. "That is without question.
"I think he came back, we had him a little bit on a pitch count, and now he is at full speed. He's an impact player without a doubt."
