- NFL. Troy Aikman makes a shocking Cowboys prediction amid Dallas' latest embarrassment
Disappointment reigns in Dallas, where the Cowboys are lumbering toward the finish line in 2024. Entering this NFL season, many around the franchise hoped this would be the year in which the Cowboys would return to the Super Bowl at last. But it quickly became evident that the 12-win team of 2023 would not be able to produce an encore.
Much of the conversation around the Cowboys this season has centered on the future of head coach Mike McCarthy, who is in the final season of his contract. There have been links to Deion Sanders, a former star player in Dallas, as McCarthy's replacement from 2025 onward, but Coach Prime is likely to remain at the University of Colorado -- while Bill Belichick, another candidate for the job, just took the open head coaching position at the University of North Carolina.

Jones gives "high grades" to embattled McCarthy - Zimmer duo
One interpretation of the Cowboys' 6-8 record is that it is the product of an injury epidemic that has touched all corners of the locker room. Starting quarterback Dak Prescott and cornerback Trevon Diggs are two impact players who have been lost for the season, while Zack Martin, Micah Parsons, and DeMarcus Lawrence have all missed multiple games through injury as well.
It seems that Jerry Jones, the team's longtime owner, subscribes to the idea that the Cowboys' disappointing campaign boils down to bad luck with player health. During his weekly appearance on local 105.3 The Fan, Jones gave McCarthy and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer "high grades" for continuing to coach up the Cowboys through adversity -- leaving the door very much open for both men to return in 2025.
Despite their recent uptick in results, Dallas is set for devastation in 2024 -- and the Cowboys' expectant fans will demand much, much more in 2025 once their star players return to health. As for whether "America's Team" can reach the ceiling that Jones believes exists for it? Well, that's another story still to be told, one way or the other.
