In a series of decisive moves, the Dallas Cowboys have solidified their commitment to key players while owner Jerry Jones adopts an uncharacteristic silence during the NFL Combine.

The Cowboys, after a more than disappointing season, have prioritized retaining cornerback Jourdan Lewis, a versatile defender who recorded a career-high 71 tackles and eight deflections in the 2024 season.

Executive Vice President Stephen Jones emphasized Lewis's importance: "We're very interested, obviously. Definitely J Lew. He's our starting nickel. We're interested in getting him back."

Lewis, who was drafted in 2017, has been instrumental in the Cowboys' secondary, starting 115 games and consistently delivering under pressure.

Investing in offensive talent

Running back Rico Dowdle emerged as a key offensive asset, amassing 1,079 rushing yards with an impressive 4.6 yards per carry in the latter half of the 2024 season.

Stephen Jones expressed enthusiasm about retaining Dowdle, noting, "The same with Rico, obviously. Rico had a great year. He got most of his yards in half of a season, once we got back committed to the run. I'm a big fan of Rico's." However, with a market value estimated at $6.2 million, negotiations will require strategic financial planning to keep Dowdle in Dallas.

Jerry Jones's media absence

In a surprising departure from tradition, owner Jerry Jones has refrained from his usual media engagements during the NFL Combine. This silence has sparked speculation about potential strategic moves or internal deliberations within the franchise. Historically known for his outspoken presence, Jones's current reticence leaves fans and analysts pondering the Cowboys' direction in the season.

As the offseason progresses, the Cowboys' focus on retaining pivotal players like Lewis and Dowdle, combined with Jerry Jones' unusual silence, suggests a period of introspection and strategic planning aimed at enhancing the team's performance in the forthcoming season.
