The Cowboys have bet big by selecting three offensive linemen in the first round of the last three drafts.

This strategy has caused a lot of confusion and excitement among their faithful fans, as the offensive line has fallen short due to injuries, forcing them to make a smart move.

Left guard Tyler Smith spoke with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about his willingness to take on the responsibility with the Cowboys.

"We were fortunate to have two guys who played at a high level for a long time, with incredible consistency in everything they did, and I learned a lot from them".

"I learned how Zack took notes. I learned how Zack practiced, how he took care of his body. So I think it's my job to that on to the young guys. Definitely teaching them the right way to do things on a daily basis, and I know Steele, myself and the rest of the guys will continue to hold that standard".

Is Smith really ready to step into that leadership role?

Tyler has established himself as the cornerstone of the Cowboys' protection, standing out with two Pro Bowls after being selected in the first round of the 2022 draft.

On the other hand, Terence Steele, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, has become a reliable veteran with 74 starts since his debut in 2020. Both of these players are essential to the team's success at the line of scrimmage. They complement each other well and undoubtedly work well as a team.

Keep in mind that despite Zack Martin's departure, Tyler isn't looking to fill his shoes as such, but rather to maintain the competitive spirit.

"I have to keep the culture going," Smith said. The standard is still the standard, and we have big dreams this preseason. We need the Lombardi Trophy".

Zack Martin will be missed in the Cowboys locker room

"It was really tough," Steele said. "Zack was my guy. He took me under his wing from the moment I walked in. He taught me how it all worked. He taught me what it takes to be great: the mindset, the hard work and all that. So it's going to be tough. I've had to adjust already,"Terence assured.

Everything seems to indicate that Brock Hoffman and Robert Jones will be competing for Zack's spot, but his leadership does not seem to be something that will be resolved in the short term.
