Although many don't want to it it, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys' front office have, within their means, worked smartly this offseason, addressing several of the team's needs. There's still a lot of work ahead to try to compete in the NFC East Division.
In that division, the Philadelphia Eagles remain the heavy favorites to win the NFC and return once again to the NFL's biggest game. Also in the mix are the Washington Commanders, who have made a big leap in quality with Jayden Daniels as quarterback.
Focusing on the Cowboys, the front office surprised many by using their first-round draft pick on offensive guard Tyler Booker from the University of Alabama. It was a surprise because fans were expecting a No. 2 receiver. However, Jerry Jones had other plans.
Two weeks after the draft - during which the Cowboys did not select any receivers - the team surprised everyone by acquiring George Pickens via trade, who had shown promise with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dak Prescott will need to be willing to throw to Pickens
Fox Sports analyst and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho was direct and blunt with Dak Prescott, who now has two high-level receivers. The first is obviously CeeDee Lamb, but now he also has George Pickens, a very powerful receiver who, notably, doesn't create much separation from cornerbacks.
"Dak Prescott has to make sure he can throw contested balls," said Acho, noting that Pickens struggles to create space. "If he's covered, he's open," so Prescott will have to be bold and make use of his new weapon.
Last year, the Steelers ran a very conservative offense, and even so, Pickens recorded 59 receptions for 900 yards and three touchdowns. Paired with Lamb, they could become a duo that challenges any defense in the NFL.
On another note, Acho also commented that the selection of Tyler Booker in the first round will give a significant boost to Dallas's offensive line - reminiscent of the unit from a few years ago. "If Dak Prescott can put together another MVP-caliber season... that offensive line is now legit. Congratulations to you, Jerry Jones."
