Greg Olsen knows a thing or two when it comes to NFL football, which is why his MVP favorite is quite the take.

Having played 14 years in the league, the now FOX Sports analyst has his finger on the pulse when it comes to the biggest stories in the league.

While many may look towards the usual names of Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson as MVP favourites, Olsen believes there is someone else who is more deserving.

During a recent appearance on The Ryen Russillo Podcast, Olsen stated his case as to why Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff should be given the award.

"Jared Goff is the MVP. He has been incredible," said Olsen. "His efficiency, his production... he's kind of having a Brock Purdy year of last year, where I don't know if people give him the credit compared to some of the other maybe flashy guys.

"Josh Allen, [Patrick] Mahomes, Lamar [Jackson]... but then, when you look at it?... everything he does [is through the roof]."

With Detroit one of the best teams in the NFL, Olsen believes that helps Goff's case, even if he might not have the splashy numbers associated with winning the award.

Olsen's choice of Goff comes at the expense of not only Mahomes and Jackson, but also Josh Allen, who is the current MVP favorite.

Rounding out the top five are Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles and Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders, depending on which sportsbook is consulted.

Olsen on why the Lions are a dangerous team

One of the reasons why Olsen has been so impressed with Goff and the Lions is that he was present for their huge comeback victory over the then-unbeaten Minnesota Vikings.

"Right now, as things stand, [the NFC] goes through Detroit... they beat Minnesota on the road. Fell down early... kinda got themselves in a little bit of a hole, then their offense just explodes, and they go bananas," said Olsen.

The Lions will look to keep that going on Sunday when they play the Green Bay Packers in another key divisional matchup. A win would strengthen their hold on the NFC's top seed, while a loss would drop them to second behind the Packers.
