- NFL. Jared Goff is on pace to set an all-time incredible NFL record for a season
The Detroit Lions are rewriting the NFL history books with their explosive offense in 2024, and the team's jaw-dropping ability to dominate games has them knocking on the door of some all-time records. After obliterating the Jacksonville Jaguars 52-6, the Lions became the first team ever to rack up three wins by at least 38 points in a single season. With seven regular-season games remaining-and a likely postseason run-they could set a new record by making it four.
Detroit's offense isn't just good; it's spectacular. They've outscored opponents by a stunning +159 point differential, leading the league by a mile. Quarterback Jared Goff has been on fire, including a flawless 24-of-29, 412-yard, four-touchdown performance against the Jaguars. That game earned him a perfect er rating of 158.3-the second time in his career he's hit that milestone with over 400 ing yards, a feat no other quarterback in NFL history has achieved.
This Lions team is versatile, combining a lethal ing attack with a punishing ground game. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have combined for 1,391 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, along with 461 receiving yards. Meanwhile, wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are on pace to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards each. St. Brown has been especially clutch, catching a touchdown in eight straight games.
Head coach Dan Campbell sees greatness
"I think we have that ability, I really do," Campbell said when asked if this offense could rank among the best in NFL history. "We've got everything we need to be potent. We're well-rounded. When you've got a hammer like David [Montgomery], the electricity of Gibbs, Jamo on the perimeter, and Amon-Ra making plays wherever you put him-it's dangerous. And then you've got [Jared] Goff running the whole show. We can play the game any way we need to."
The numbers back up Campbell's optimism. The Lions have scored 336 points through 10 games, averaging 33.6 per game. If they maintain this pace-or even pick it up slightly-they could challenge the 2013 Denver Broncos' single-season scoring record of 606 points. With the offense clicking on all cylinders, it's no longer a question of if they'll break records-it's a matter of how many.
