As the Kansas City Chiefs inch closer to their regular season debut, the team is largely in good shape health-wise, though one key player remains a concern.
Head coach Andy Reid addressed the media on Monday, stating that the roster is mostly intact, with just one player, wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, potentially missing the opening game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Brown suffered a shoulder injury during the Chiefs' first preseason matchup earlier this month, initially leading to fears he could miss significant time. However, while early reports suggested a 4-to-6 week recovery period, there is still hope within the organization that he might recover in time to play in Week 1.
Mahomes gave his thoughts on Brown's injury
"It could've been worse," quarterback Patrick Mahomes reflected last week. "It's a blow to lose someone like Brown, especially with the experience he brings to the table, but we've got depth in that position. Hopefully, he'll be back on the field sooner rather than later."
Brown, who signed a one-year contract with Kansas City after two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, has proven himself a dependable target in his NFL career. The former Oklahoma standout has recorded 313 receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns over five seasons.
Despite Brown's uncertain status, Reid provided a positive update on other injured players, including offensive linemen Joe Thuney and Jawaan Taylor, as well as defensive tackle Chris Jones. These players are expected to be ready to go when the Chiefs take on the Ravens to kick off the 2024 season on September 5.
