Isiah Pacheco had a night of highs and lows in the NFL season opener between the Chiefs and Ravens. The Kansas City running back took a hard hit to his ribs that forced him off the field just minutes before the start of the third quarter.
The cameras captured Isiah lying on the ground near the sideline in agony from the blow. Nearby reporters noted that he vomited from the pain. It seemed like the end of the game for Pacheco, as veteran Semaje Perine had to come in to replace him.
But nothing was going to stop Isiah Pacheco from returning to the field. Just three minutes later, he reentered the game, ran on third down, and scored his first touchdown of the season. Thanks to this score, the Chiefs finally pulled ahead of the Ravens with a 20-10 lead.
Isiah Pacheco gave us the perfect example of "puke and rally," showing that despite an injury or illness, he continues to display his speed and power. In addition to his touchdown, he had 15 successful carries and 45 rushing yards.
The Ravens did what they could, with Lamar Jackson shining on a night when the spotlight was on the other side of the field. It was a great first Thursday Night game that ended 20-27 in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs.
An offense that scares any defense
The Chiefs' offensive dominance was not only due to Pacheco's runs. Patrick Mahomes continued to show why he is the man of the moment in the NFL, throwing for 291 yards and scoring points in the season opener.
Welcome to the NFL, Xavier Worthy
Without a doubt, the surprise of the night was Xavier Worthy, who managed to score two touchdowns in his first professional NFL game. The rookie landed on his feet in Kansas and, at just 21 years old, looks set to be one of the most productive wide receivers of the season.
As his name suggests, Worthy demonstrated why he was selected as the Chiefs' top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
