Patrick Mahomes is a winner once again after cheering on and watching the Texas Tech Red Raiders narrowly edge out the Arkansas Razorbacks to book their spot in the NCAA Men's Basketball quarterfinals.
The Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback was born and raised in Texas, and the Red Raiders are who he played college football for before heading off to the NFL to dominate Super Bowls.
But he hasn't forgot his roots and remains in touch with the team even years later, ing them both as a fan and in the financial sense too, recently investing some five million dollars into the university.
So when the Red Raiders beat the Razorbacks in overtime in an 85-83 thriller, few in the arena would've been happier than Mahomes as the 29-year-old headed to social media to celebrate the win.
"LETS GOOOOO!!!!!," Mahomes posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, before later adding, "AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!," as the emotions of the win and dreams of a national championship burst to the furore.
How did the Red Raiders stun the Razorbacks?
As the fourth quarter began, few would've given the Red Raiders much more than an outsider's chance of being the winner of the game as they trailed by 16 points with 10 minutes on the clock.
But sport doesn't follow the statistics and odds for a reason, and a remarkable rally saw Texas Tech overturn the deficit to force overtime and give themselves a real chance of an unthinkable comeback.
The Red Raiders' rally marked the second-largest comeback in Sweet 16 history, and they weren't done there as they quickly moved on to win in overtime thanks to Darrion Williams' two-point effort.
With seven seconds on the clock, the 6ft 6in forward gave them the advantage and the Razorbacks couldn't respond when they got the ball back, meaning Texas Tech are into the final eight.
