The Kansas City Chiefs' defensive line has a huge cause for concern heading into the 2025 NFL season. Los Angeles Chargers rookie Omarion Hampton is making waves even before the first practices, all because of a photo that went viral on social media.
It's clear that football players have to be large men. The very nature of the sport demands big men who can deliver and soak the physical punishment necessary to move the ball or stop the opponent.
With that in mind, Hampton could be one of the best players in the league. A photo circulating on X (formerly Twitter) shows the rookie towering over Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, leading netizens to question whether the image is legit.
Is Omarion really that huge?
In the photo, Hampton is seen greeting his new head coach for the first time. According to his file, Harbaugh is 6-foot-3, which means he's no small guy, and yet the former North Carolina running back looks gigantic next to him.
Omarion was the Chargers' first-round pick, number 22 overall, out of a standout career with the Tar Heels. In three years with the team, Hampton racked up 3,565 yards and 36 touchdowns on 622 carries, making him one of the top prospects in this draft.
What about the controversial photo? Hampton's file says the young player is 6 feet, or three inches shorter than his coach, raising serious questions about whether the image was altered with some editing program, with artificial intelligence, or if it's just the angle from which it was taken.
AFC West teams can rest easy
A video from the moment portrayed in the image demonstrates what is likely Hampton's real size. As in other photos, the footage shows that the Chargers head coach is slightly taller than his new pupil.
The revelation of the truth surely generated a collective sense of relief among AFC West defenses, knowing they won't have to face a giant. Hampton is enough of a threat at his actual size.
