Michael Strahan is more than just a New York Giants legend. The Hall of Fame defensive end played his entire career with the team, leading them to a Super Bowl victory and earning numerous accolades while donning blue and white. Now, he's looking to take his connection to the franchise to the next level-by becoming an owner.
Strahan entered the NFL as the 40th overall pick in the 1993 draft and spent 15 seasons with the Giants. When he retired in 2007, he left behind an extraordinary legacy: a Super Bowl XLII win, four First-Team All-Pro selections, seven Pro Bowl nods, and countless other honors.
The Giants immortalized his impact by inducting him into their Ring of Honor, retiring his jersey in 2010, and celebrating his Hall of Fame induction in 2014. Now, Strahan is aiming for a new role within the franchise-minority ownership.
Strahan follows in Manning's footsteps
According to Sportico insiders Scott Soshnick and Eden Novy-Williams, Strahan is interested in acquiring a minority stake in the team. Reports indicate that roughly 10% of the Giants is currently available to investors.
"Former New York Giants star Michael Strahan and billionaire Marc Lasry have teamed up to pursue an investment in the NFL team, according to multiple people familiar with the talks," Soshnick and Novy-Williams reported.
But Strahan and Lasry aren't the only ones eyeing a piece of Giants ownership. In April, Bloomberg revealed that former quarterback and two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning is also interested in acquiring part of the stake to become a minority shareholder.
How much are the Giants worth?
Valuations vary, but most estimates place the New York Giants' worth between $7 billion and $8 billion. Owners John Mara and Steve Tisch are exploring selling a portion of the franchise to generate fresh capital.
As for Strahan's financial standing, his net worth is estimated to be around $76 million, while Manning's is significantly higher at approximately $160 million. Could we see Strahan and Manning sitting alongside Tom Brady at the next owners' meeting? Time will tell.
